“I’ve come to an understanding that the dharma, to be really living, vitally important, and to be a dharma that is alive and blows open the mind, has to be applied against the background of the period of history we’re living in and directed not only to the great universal problems that all humans face but also to the special over-arching problems of this historical period in which we are living.” -Bhikkhu Bodhi
I highly recommend watching this talk, “Towards an Integral Model of Buddhism” by Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi. It is a lecture that was given to the board members and volunteers of Buddhist Global Relief, a respected Buddhist poverty-alleviation organization that provides food aid and educational assistance to the poor and needy throughout the world. Brought to us via the Buddhist Global Relief youtube channel, the talk is “an early attempt by Ven. Bodhi to develop a model for understanding and practicing Buddhism suitable for the post-modern stage of mind’s evolution.”
