The Summer 2022 issue is here!
Tricycle’s latest issue explores several topics at the heart of Buddhist discourse today, as well as long-standing debates within the Buddhist community, dating all the way back to the time of the Buddha. Scholar Donald S. Lopez Jr. shares the “four essential questions” to be answered by the academic study of Buddhism, while Tricycle features editor Andrew Cooper’s piece, “Liberating the Sacred,” tackles the terms of Buddhism’s historic uprooting and translation across cultural boundaries.
The late psychotherapist and author Teri Dillion offers a poignant reflection on Buddhism and terminal illness in her piece “Making Our Own Jewels,” while writer Ann Tashi Slater meditates on selfhood, womanhood, and Buddhist practice, “Leaving the Palace.” This issue also features several interviews with performers and writers on the vanguard of imagining the relationship between Buddhism’s spiritual practices and the possibilities of artistic creation, a topic explored in interviews with poet Ocean Vuong, Broadway performer Kei Tsuruharatani, and writer Jay Caspian Kang.
