BURMA: Aung Sann Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy will not be involved in drafting Burma’s new constitution, according to a spokesman for the junta. The junta also dismissed the September protests as “trivial.” But the protesters will nevertheless be put on trial, in a complete mockery of due process.
Ecologists are complaining about China’s dams in Burma. Certainly true, but that will be a tough issue to get results on.
Three conservative council members who skipped a meeting that included prayers from a Buddhist nun found themselves in tepid water in Scotland. Seems an MP accused them of bigotry, but evangelical Christians leapt to their defense — as did the Buddhists involved in the meeting:
“We have no problem with people not wanting to take part,” said Ani Lhamo, secretary to the abbot. “People have the right to follow their own beliefs and stay outside if they want.”
