Tricycle has turned 25! We’ve taken the occasion of our anniversary to reflect on a few of the topics most discussed by Western Buddhists today: female ordination; social justice and racial diversity; the mindfulness movement; and future leadership. To be sure, these issues are not new, yet they have taken on fresh urgency in a social, political, and religious climate that has changed greatly since 1991, when our first issue appeared.

In the pages that follow, we take a look at where we were then and where we are now—and, perhaps, where we are headed.
