Buddha Takes the Mound
A Virtual Book Event With Donald Lopez

What if the Buddha invented baseball? In his new book Buddha Takes the Mound: Enlightenment in 9 Innings, Buddhist scholar and acclaimed author Donald Lopez makes the case that the Buddha created the beloved game as a way to teach us about ourselves, each other and the nature of life.

Lopez’s “baseball sutra” reveals the dharmic teachings hiding in the all-American game: the three strikes as the “three marks of existence,” and the seasons of winning and losing that reflect the cycles of samsara. What Lopez discovers is that when we look at baseball through the lens of Buddhism, we see the game in an entirely new way—and we find a profound (and enjoyable) opportunity to contemplate the wisdom of the Dharma.

Join Lopez and Tricycle on Wednesday, July 22, 6:30 p.m. EDT for a virtual book event to celebrate the recent publication of Buddha Takes the Mound. This hour-long Zoom event will feature a conversation between Lopez and Tricycle publisher James Shaheen, a brief reading, and live audience Q&A.
