As the summer—with its record-setting heat, earthquakes, and hurricanes—draws to a close, the 10-year anniversary of events of 9/11 draws near.

Over the weekend on which September 11 falls, Tricycle will co-sponsor A Weekend of Peace, Compassion & Forgiveness, presented by BuddhaFest, in Washington, DC. Sylvia Boorstein, Lama Surya Das, Tara Brach, Hugh Byrne, and other teachers will offer teachings and lead periods of meditation. Videos of the teachings will be recorded, and excerpts will be presented here at tricycle.com following the the weekend.

During the week prior to the event, we’ll revisit the special practice section that appeared in the Winter 2001 issue of Tricycle, in which Buddhist teachers, including Thich Nhat Hanh, Stephen Batchelor, Thanissaro Bhikkhu, Gelek Rimpoche, and Judy Lief, reflect on the terrorist attacks in Washington and New York. Acharya Gaylon Ferguson will lead the September Tricycle Retreat. His timely teachings on fearlessness will provide an apt response to terror.

Join us this September to take part in commemorating 9/11. Details of the BuddhaFest event in Washington, DC are here.
