In the Bon tradition of Tibet, a lama’s son inherits his title. A new film from Kesang Tseten, The Lama’s Son, takes us on a journey to Lubra in northern Nepal, where a large population of Bon followers reside. Here, an aging lama awaits his son’s return from the United States, where many of the younger members of the community have fled to. The film illuminates the lesser known practices and beliefs of Bon followers, and the challenges they face in ensuring the survival of their heritage in today’s rapidly globalizing world.

This film will be available to stream until midnight on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. To play the film, click on the play button that appears at the center of the image above.
