Caleb Carter

Caleb Carter resides on the Itoshima peninsula in southern Japan, where he is an associate professor of Japanese religions and Buddhist studies in the Faculty of Humanities at Kyushu University. He recently authored A Path into the Mountains: Shugendō and Mount Togakushi (University of Hawai’i, 2022) and is currently working on a new project on intersections between mountain worship and mountaineering in early twentieth-century Japan.
