Sometimes we fool ourselves into thinking that being a practitioner means we’ll no longer struggle with painful emotions, interpersonal conflicts, or unresolved wounds from our past. This isn’t true, and thinking otherwise can lead to a sense of disconnection from our feelings and the world around us. But there’s no need to panic. In this retreat, mental health counselor and meditation teacher Mindy Newman will identify the places in our practice where we might inadvertently succumb to this kind of convenient thinking, commonly referred to as “spiritual bypassing.” By knowing the most common traps that practitioners slip into, we’ll be better equipped to make sure our practice is transformational, not dysfunctional.
