Cultivating equanimity can help us remember the simple presence that each moment offers, particularly the things we do for fun. Adopting this mindset—a spirit of playfulness—can help us generate an authentic response to life as it arises, whatever the circumstances may be.

Equanimity can be thought of as the state of being that arises when we set aside attachments. It is a mindset of not knowing, not expecting, and therefore not judging. It’s a clean slate that lets the next moment write its truth onto it without any interference. It pairs nicely with curiosity, both inspiring it and drawing inspiration from it. With equanimity, we can find ourselves excited to discover what the next moment will bring. When our expectations are set aside, the road to dissatisfaction begins to fade.
