About the Artist: Pej Behdarvand is a Los Angeles–based photographer whose clients include New York Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine. He has received awards from Communication Arts and American Photography. After doing some volunteer work with local monks in Sri Lanka, Behdarvand became interested in monasticism as a photographic subject. This inspiration led him to Nepal. He hopes to further expand his project to include other countries, as well as the various monastic traditions of the Christian faith. These photographs were all taken inside a school for novice monks in Chilaw
