The antidote to feeling powerless is to adopt the perspective of engagement. When engaged—even while recognizing that, as Homer so aptly states, “everything is so hard”—we understand that problems are not immovable. A key insight is distinguishing between events and how we interpret and respond to those events. We are engaged when we live, breathe, and act from this distinction. This helps us let go of blame and accept responsibility for changing our situation
