Yesterday evening I was very happy to attend the Long Life Empowerment, or Pema Tse Nyingtik, with Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche that took place here in New York.  It was the first event of his current trip through the US, which is both his very first visit to the West as well as a celebration of the life of his predecessor Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche on the one-hundredth anniversary of his birth.  He will now be moving on to events in Vermont and Colorado. An impressive young lama, Rinpoche has a very dignified way about him, both confident and humble.  While addressing the audience before the ceremony he immediately warmed the room with a funny, well delivered line, something along the lines of “I’m glad you’re all curious about me, and frankly, I’m just as curious about you.” The empowerment itself was quite beautiful and meaningful, but I am going to refrain from elaborating on the details. For anyone who is curious about what an empowerment is, this video of Elizabeth Mattis-Namgyel is a good introduction. Rinpoche bestowing blessings:
