Bhikkhu Ananda Metteyya

Bhikkhu Ananda Metteyya (1872–1923, born Charles Henry Allan Bennett) was an English Buddhist monk who led one of the first Buddhist missions to the West. Ordained in Burma in 1902, he cofounded the Buddhasasana Samagama (International Buddhist Society) in Rangoon and, after arriving in England in 1908, supported the newly formed Buddhist Society of Great Britain and Ireland, later editing its journal, The Buddhist Review. His writings were collected in The Religion of Burma and Other Papers and The Wisdom of the Aryas. Earlier in life, he was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and a teacher of Aleister Crowley.
