Seon Master Seung Sahn

Seon Master Seung Sahn (1927–2004) was a Korean Seon master of the Jogye Order and the founder of the Kwan Um School of Zen. Trained under Seon Master Kobong, he brought Korean Seon practice to the United States in the early 1970s and established Zen centers worldwide. He is best known for his direct teaching style and books such as Dropping Ashes on the Buddha and The Compass of Zen.
