Valerie Brown is of Afro-Cuban descent and is a dharma teacher in the Plum Village tradition founded by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. She is the author of Hope Leans Forward: Braving Your Way toward Simplicity, Awakening, and Peace and the coauthor of Healing Our Way Home: Black Buddhist Teachings on Ancestors, Joy, and Liberation.
